SUMMER CAMP - Grades 1 to 2

Language Arts + Visual Arts + Dramatic Arts


Where books come to life!

Students will be immersed in a variety of books. The selection celebrates Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators. Through meaningful learning they will strengthen their Language Arts skills in the most creative way! 


Curriculum developed and taught by an Ontario Certified Teacher.


In the morning students will be guided through one book. They will develop skills in understanding the authors message, point of view, making connections, inferring, visualizing and much more.


In the afternoon students will experience creative hands-on learning projects that complement the book in the form of Visual Arts and Dramatic Arts.


At Apostrophe Kids Summer Camp, students will learn to:

• Develop a deeper understanding of the content of a selected book

• Express understanding of texts in various forms ex. short responses, pictures, mind maps, etc.

• Organize their thinking for written and oral work

• Build public speaking confidence through Dramatic Arts performances

• Express themselves through a variety of Visual Arts projects


Each day will be structured, but all experiences will be open-ended to allow for individual exploration and discovery!


Students will need to bring their own lunch, snacks, water bottle and CREATIVITY.

10 Books Nominated for the Blue Spruce Award™  

Each day students will experience one fiction or non-fiction book celebrating a Canadian author, publisher, and illustrator. These books were picked from a recently published collection of Canadian children’s picture books. This introduction to these magnificent books is meant to create a meaningful experience for young readers and create exciting opportunities to express their understanding in a variety of ways. 


Camp Times: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

9:00 – 9:15      Drop off

9:15 – 10:15    Book guided reading and discussion

10:15 – 10:30  Snack

10:30 – 12:00  Book language arts activities            

12:00 – 12:30  Lunch

12:30 – 2:30    Book visual arts activities

2:30 – 2:45      Snack

2:45 – 3:45      Book dramatic arts activities

3:45 – 4:00      Pick up

NOTE: In the event that planned activities finish early additional activities may take place outside. Please have students dress appropriately.


Cost:

1 Week Camp = $275.00 (after May 31, 2020 - $300.00)

2 Week Camp = $500.00 (after May 31, 2020 - $550.00)


Although every effort will be made to accommodate students, Apostrophe Kids reserves the right to cancel the camp due to insufficient enrollment. Registrants will be notified of cancellations 2-weeks in advance and will receive a full refund.
